Mineral • Textured • Gracefully Balanced
The Chave family has been farming granite in Mauves since 1481. Circa comes from Clos Florentin, a four-hectare parcel on the granitic slopes above the village — the only white in the Chave Sélection range grown entirely on granite, which is why it drinks nothing like the limestone-anchored Hermitage Blanc. Roussanne leads here, with Marsanne in support: fermented on indigenous yeasts, raised in used oak.
What you get is textured but tightly wound — quince, white flowers, green almond, a beeswax undercurrent — with the kind of mineral tension that makes you reach for a second glass before the first one's empty. This is Saint-Joseph doing its best impression of something much more expensive.
Region: Saint-Joseph, Northern Rhône, France
Grapes: Roussane, Marsanne
Farming: Sustainable, hand-harvested
Method: Native fermentation, aged in tank & neutral oak
Style: Mineral, savory, food-driven Rhône white
