Rataraura is a Barbera del Monferrato Superiore docg, exclusively obtained from barbera grapes hand-picked mostly in Vicario vineyard — plantation year between 1970 and 2002 — with 50-60 q. per ha average yield. Spontaneous fermentation — wild yeast only — is done in open air terracotta amphorae with extended maceration. Aging is mostly done — for 20 months at least — in terracotta amphorae. In the local dialect of 19th century, Rataraura means “bat”.
